Thompson_Solis_2_800The rematch between US ring veteran Tony Thompson and Cuban Olympic gold medalist Odlanier Solis will take place on October 18th at CASTELLO in Dusseldorf, Germany. Promoter Ahmet Oner announced that tickets are going on sale today (www.dticket.de).

“We are happy that we reached a deal with the CASTELLO in Dusseldorf. Now we are all set and ready to go”, says Oner. The Turkish promoter hasn’t staged events in Germany for over a year. “This is my comeback in Germany. German boxing is going through some hard times and nearly dead. It’s time for somebody to revive it.”

The success of Oner’s revival is clearly bound to the outcome of the Thompson vs. Solis rematch. In March, the Cuban defector who has been promoted by Oner since turning pro in 2007 lost a close but clear decision to Thompson in a disappointing fight. “This is the last chance for Solis”, states Oner. “He needs to win convincingly to get back to the top. He has so much talent and potential but now he has to show what he’s made of. I invested a lot of time and money in his career. Now he needs to deliver.”

In the co-feature, unbeaten German heavyweight prospect Agit Kabayel (10-0) is taking on unbeaten Memnun Hadzic (8-0) from Bosnia. The card also features former WBC Silver welterweight champion Selcuk Aydin who will try to get back on track after losing three of his last six fights.
